Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai's Annual Winter Kyu Grade Examinations will be held as shown at the Aikido Centre, Mill Lane, Barnstaple, Devon on Sunday 7th December 2025.

Sunday 21st December 2025 - The last Monthly Dan Grade Class of the year will be held at our Crediton dojo on this date from 10.00am - 12.00pm with all Dan Grades + 1st & 2nd Kyu in one class together.

Limited to fifty places, you must book and pay in advance. Spaces are already starting to fill up, to guarantee your space book as soon as possible. Understand you cannot turn up unannounced on the day.

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

The Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy International Winter Course 2025 brought together more than 250 people from all over Europe. Training was lead by H.Otsuka San-Dai Soke who had travelled from Japan especially for the occasion. It was both pleasing and humbling to see so many from Devon present. On the last day a Dan Grading was held with a panel hand picked by Shiomitsu Sensei that included the Grandmaster. Attempting the examination was one person from France, two from Germany and eight from England (all from Devon). Out of the eleven, seven passed including six from Devon. Russell Ovey and Craig Hill both passed 4th Dan. Russell in his mid 40's and Craig in his mid 30's have both trained since they were 6 and 4 years old respectively. Two members over the age of sixty passed 2nd Dan, Chris Stamp at 68 years old and Susan Greenaway at the age of 61, a truly wonderful achievement. Edmund Denning also successfully passed 2nd Dan at the age of 59, as did Sabella McPake at the age of 21. On behalf of everyone concerned with Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai our heartfelt congratulations go to those who passed and our thoughts with those who on this occasion did not, but tried so hard.
