DAN GRADE PROMOTIONS



MATTHEW SOANES being presented with a certificate for his promotion to 5th Dan at this year's Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy Summer Course. Matthew started Wado-Ryu Karate-Do with the late Takamizawa Sensei and Peter Hill at our group's orgininal dojo at the Eric Palmer Centre, Great Torrington in 1984 as a twelve year old boy. Matthew is an ex-European Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kata champion and won the prestigious International Millennium Wado-Ryu Karate-Do individual Kata title in front of the late Sensei H.Ohtsuka II 10th Dan. Matthew continues to train and study deeply, and is now also a respected English Karate Federation and British Karate Federation official.



After ten years of regular training mother and son REBECCA CHALMERS and DILLON CHALMERS from Bideford were successful in passing at the first attempt 1st Dan on this year's Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy Summer Course in the New Forest. Dillon is now off to Bristol University and all our best wishes from everyone concerned with the Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai go to him.

 

At this year's Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy Summer Course, SUSAN GREENAWAY from Exeter passed at the first attempt 1st Dan. Sue as trained and been a member of the Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai for the past 19 years. Sue has had many reasons to give up over the years, but continues as loyally as the first day she started.
