Although the emphasis as always been on quality within the Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai rather than quantity, the number of members always tends to stay at around one hundred and fifty licensed members, with this figure staying very consistent. For a traditonal Karate-Do group in a place like rural Devon and for reaching the standards that we try to reach, this is quite a remarkable achivement having been built on by hard work in the dojo, reputation and recommendation through word of mouth over many, many years. The emphasis within Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai as laid down by our group's founder, the late Sensei Toru Takamizawa 7th Dan Kyoshi Shihan and now carried on by his friend and senior the much respected, Sensei M.Shiomitsu 9th Dan Hanshi Shihan together with the late Takamizawa Sensei's personal student Peter Hill 6th Dan and all of the many senior Dan grades past and present within Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Kai is on quaility of character, form and spirit through hard training technically, physically, mentally and spiritually.
